1987
Our story began in 1987, when our founder entered the insulation industry as a field insulator, installing mechanical and industrial insulation in schools, residences, and other facilities throughout New York.
1989
In 1989, New York Insulation, Inc. was established from a home office and garage. While continuing to work in the abatement industry during the week, our founder spent weekends building NYI— personally performing insulation work and developing the relationships that would become the foundation of the company.
1992
NYI became licensed by the New York State Department of Labor for asbestos abatement and began working with public agencies, including the New York City Housing Authority and NYC Parks. The company opened its first dedicated office in Astoria, Queens, and began building its field workforce.
1994
NYI expanded into public contracting, securing projects with NYC Parks, including work at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, as well as its first service contract with NYCHA. As the workload grew, so did the company — both in the field and in the office.
1997
The company relocated to Maspeth, Queens, adding dedicated warehouse space and expanding its workforce to perform both asbestos abatement and reinsulation services throughout the New York metropolitan area.
2001
NYI moved into a larger 10,000-square-foot facility, expanded its fleet, and secured its first major NYCHA contract valued at more than $2.5 million. At the same time, the company continued growing its private commercial portfolio and expanded its licensing into additional states.
2007
As NYI continued to grow, additional field supervisors, project personnel, estimators, and administrative professionals joined the organization. The company also expanded its environmental capabilities by obtaining EPA lead-related credentials and developing the operational structure needed to manage increasingly complex projects.
2011
NYI reached another milestone with a major private commercial project at the historic Domino Sugar property in Brooklyn, valued at more than $4 million. This period further established the company’s ability to successfully execute large-scale and demanding environmental projects.
2014
What began with one person, a home office, and a garage has grown into a full-service environmental contracting organization supported by experienced estimators, project managers, operations professionals, consultants, warehouse personnel, field supervisors, and skilled tradespeople.
2026
Today, New York Insulation operates a substantial fleet and supports a field workforce that can exceed 250 workers per day across active projects. Our capabilities have expanded beyond insulation and asbestos abatement to include lead and mold remediation, demolition, environmental services, and general contracting, with experience performing both private and public-sector work, including union and PLA projects.
